The Role of Parental Involvement in Students’ Academic Achievement

Abstract:
| This study investigates the influence of parental involvement on students’ academic achievement across primary and secondary education levels. Parental involvement is conceptualized through three main dimensions: home-based support, school communication, and participation in educational decision-making. The study employed a mixed-method approach, combining a survey of 400 parents with interviews conducted with 25 teachers and school administrators in the United Arab Emirates and Egypt. Findings demonstrate that students whose parents are actively engaged in their learning show higher levels of academic performance, motivation, and self-regulation. Additionally, effective communication between schools and families was found to enhance mutual trust and accountability. The paper concludes that fostering collaborative partnerships between parents and educators is vital to promoting student success, particularly in culturally diverse learning environments. |
| الملخص تبحث هذه الدراسة أثر مشاركة الوالدين في التحصيل الأكاديمي للطلبة في مرحلتي التعليم الأساسي والثانوي، من خلال ثلاثة أبعاد رئيسية: الدعم المنزلي، والتواصل مع المدرسة، والمشاركة في اتخاذ القرارات التعليمية. استخدمت الدراسة منهجًا مختلطًا يجمع بين الاستبانة التي شملت 400 ولي أمر، والمقابلات التي أجريت مع 25 معلمًا وإداريًا في مدارس بالإمارات ومصر. أظهرت النتائج أن الطلبة الذين يحظون بمشاركة فاعلة من والديهم في التعلم يحققون أداءً أكاديميًا أفضل، ويظهرون دافعية ذاتية أعلى وقدرة أكبر على التنظيم الذاتي. كما بينت النتائج أن التواصل الفعّال بين المدرسة والأسرة يعزز الثقة والمسؤولية المشتركة. وتخلص الدراسة إلى أن بناء شراكة حقيقية بين أولياء الأمور والمعلمين يعد عاملاً حاسمًا في دعم نجاح الطلبة، خاصة في البيئات التعليمية متعددة الثقافات |
